The world has come a long way in terms of how women are viewed in the workforce. Women in journalism worked very hard to not only be accepted as the serious journalists that they are, but to break into various niches within the field of journalism as well. This is why the journalism scholarships that are available for women are so important today.

This journalism scholarship has been offered since 1990, with more than 100 winners of the award since that time. The journalism scholarship program is open to high school seniors, undergraduate students, and graduate students. You must be a resident of New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, or Pennsylvania, but you do not have to attend a school in these states in order to be eligible. You will, however be eligible if you are not a resident of any of these states if you are attending a school in one of the five boroughs of New York City.

The award amounts for these contests will vary, depending on the contest in question. Pay special attention to the topic, the word count, and the deadline for each contest before entering.
